Committee Selects New Chief Administrative Officer
Council will vote on position at a special meeting of council

Winnipeg, February 25 – Committed to building a city of opportunity and addressing the priorities of Winnipeggers, Mayor Sam Katz today announced that the selection committee will recommend Glen Laubenstein as the new Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Winnipeg.

After an extensive hiring process conducted by council's selection committee with the assistance of Harris Consulting, Mr. Laubenstein was selected as the successful candidate to lead the city's public service.

Laubenstein brings a wealth of experience involving over 30 years of municipal experience. He most recently served as the chief administrative officer for the City of Kingston, Ontario. Prior to that, Mr. Laubenstein worked for eight years as the City Manager for the City of Brandon, Manitoba. He also has the distinct honour of having three times led the fastest economy growing city in Canada.

"Our city faces many challenges and we need a CAO that is willing to engage our public service and demonstrate fiscal responsibility and quality service Winnipeggers expect," said Mayor Sam Katz. "I believe Mr. Laubenstein's knowledge and passion for city governance will benefit the citizens of Winnipeg as council works to meet our citizen's needs."

Laubenstein's distinguished career also includes managing the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alberta and Richmond, B.C., as well as serving as a municipal treasurer and audit accountant with the Province of British Columbia.

"I look forward to working with the Mayor, city council, and the public service to move our city forward," said Glen Laubenstein. "Winnipeg is a city progressively moving in the right direction and I am excited to play a role in building on this momentum."

The position of CAO for the City of Winnipeg was left vacant following the resignation of Annitta Stenning this past September. Laubenstein will assume the duties of CAO in April 2008, pending a vote at executive policy committee on Wednesday, February 27th, and a full council vote to be held at a special meeting of council on Thursday, February 28th.
