We are seeking a President who is an accomplished, Winnipeg aficionado with the skills, enthusiasm, vision and experience to champion Destination Winnipeg as it pursues its mandate to market the city and provide services to facilitate economic development and tourism opportunities for Winnipeg in collaboration with partners.    

 

Formed in 2002, Destination Winnipeg is the city’s economic development and tourism services agency, an arm’s length organization led by a private sector board with core funding from the City of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba.  This non-profit agency has a successful track record of results in leading the marketing of Winnipeg, generating tourism business and facilitating economic development projects.  www.destinationwinnipeg.ca

 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President is responsible for the strategic, fiscal and operational leadership of the agency in line with Destination Winnipeg’s corporate goals.  We are seeking an accomplished executive leader with a combination of experience in marketing, economic development and tourism, partnering with industry and government, and collaborative initiatives.  The individual we seek will have well developed strategic networks and a passion for promoting Winnipeg.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Leadership and direction of day-to-day operations
  • Strategic and business planning
  • Overall fiscal management of the organization
  • Regular reporting to board and stakeholders
  • Lead the human resources of the organization
  • Lead negotiations on partnerships and major projects
  • Assist the City and the Province in business expansion and attraction opportunities
  • Oversee marketing and promoting Winnipeg to potential business, investors, visitors and planners
  • Primary spokesperson and responsible for overall communications
  • Generating interest in economic development and tourism and building industry relationships

Selection Criteria includes:

  • Post secondary degree in Business, Marketing or related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years experience in a senior management role, preferably with multiple reporting functions
  • Exceptional leadership skills and experience
  • Economic development experience, working with business, industry and government partners
  • Experience in marketing, tourism, and community relations
  • Superior communication skills and networking ability
  • Good knowledge of Winnipeg’s economy, community and issues.
