Department Line Manager

 

The Line Manager is responsible for product quality, labour and material efficiency, production scheduling, administration, and performance improvement within the department.  He/she provides direction to employees, ensures employees adhere to company policies and procedures, provides communication link to senior management, and adheres to budget requirements.

Key Priorities

 

q       Ensures employees perform work safely and that equipment is maintained and processes are carried out in compliance with Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures.

q       Ensures work meets quality standards.  Follows through on quality issues by ensuring root causes are identified and addressed.

q       Monitors and ensures budget compliance and provides updates on department budget status to management.

q       Directs department activities and ensures production is carried out in accordance with customer requirements.

 

Selection Criteria

 

q       Vibrant, energetic, self-motivated person with a positive outlook and a can-do attitude.

q       Minimum of 3 years experience as a group leader, lead/charge hand or supervisor in a unionized setting.

q       Minimum 5-7 years experience in a manufacturing setting preferably in the durable goods, mechanical and/or electrical industry. 

q       Experience in labor relations an asset. 

q       Job specific qualifications (e.g. welding or paint processes) may be required depending on the department requirements.

q       Demonstrated proficiency in Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies required.

q       Strong organization and communication skills. 

q       Must have demonstrated a record of dependability and solid work ethic.

q       Project management, conflict management skills an asset.
