Our client, a highly successful, privately held Winnipeg manufacturer, is seeking a Controller with succession opportunity for the CFO position.  The Controller will be a strategic thinking yet hands-on accounting professional who will provide leadership to the accounting department and actively participate on the senior management team.  Reporting to the CFO, the Controller provides leadership, direction and coordination for all accounting, financial reporting, banking, insurance, and payroll matters.    

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·         Provide leadership to the Accounting, Finance, Insurance and Payroll functions.

·         Maintain full cycle accounting including oversight of accounts receivable and accounts payable.

·         Oversee and assist in the preparation of annual financial statements as well as monthly and quarterly reports.

·         Prepare budgets, financial forecasts and financial analysis.

·         Implement internal controls including accounting policies, procedures and work standards.

·         Oversee SRED applications.

·         Prepare for and manage the annual external audit.

·         Analyse capital expenditures and business opportunities.

·         Oversee foreign currency transactions and hedging activities.

·         Develop, direct and implement best practices for accounting and finance matters.

·         Build effective relationships with employees, executives, stakeholders, and banks.

 

Selection Criteria:   

 

·         University degree in accounting or finance, followed by a professional accounting designation – CA preferred. 

·         Minimum 7 years progressive financial management experience, preferably in the manufacturing sector at a senior level.

·         Strong technical skills in finance, accounting and management reporting.

·         High energy, positive attitude, self starter, and team player.

·         Experience in business strategy, corporate finance, financial modeling and lean manufacturing.

·         Ability to manage multiple projects and produce quality materials under tight timeframes.

·         Track record of successfully leading people.

·         Previous experience with an ERP system.

·         Experience with U.S. tax, cost accounting, hedging and/or acquisitions considered an asset.
