With its head office located in southern Manitoba (approximately one hour from Winnipeg), our client is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated Controller who will provide leadership for all accounting and financial management, while providing financial advice on cost savings and process improvement activities. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will lead an accounting team and oversee all financial reporting and fiscal management aspects of the company’s operations. The successful candidate will be a technically strong financial accountant who is entrepreneurial, business minded, hard working, thrives on challenge, and is willing to take initiative.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide leadership on accounting and finance functions including financial reporting, inventory control, labour costing, U.S. foreign exchange, and consolidated reporting.
· Maintain fully cycle accounting including oversight of payables and Canadian and U.S. operations.
· Develop, direct and implement best practices for financial reporting matters as well as policies, procedures and work standards.
· Prepare financial forecasts and financial analysis.
· Maintain positive relationships with financial institutions through open and timely communications.
· Lead, mentor and develop the financial team.
· Identify, monitor and report on key performance indicators.
· Prepare for and manage the external audit.
· Oversee foreign currency transactions and hedging activities.
· Partner with other business function to provide value-added support.
Selection Criteria:
· University degree in business or finance, followed by an accounting designation – CA preferred.
· Minimum 5 years progressive financial management experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Strong technical skills in finance, accounting, and consolidated reporting.
· Experience with financial modeling and scenario analysis.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and produce quality materials under tight timeframes.
· Track record of successfully leading people.
· Experience with ERP systems, Excel, and lean manufacturing.
· Knowledge and experience with U.S. tax, cost accounting and SRED applications is an asset.
· Strong ambition, drive and energy.
· Personal qualities include reliability, accuracy, high attention to detail and accountability.
